Year after year the biggest festival of all Peru (Virgen de la Candelaria) is celebrated in honor of the Virgen de la Candelaria, patron saint of Puno. It is a manifestation of religious syncretism that links the Catholic faith and the Andean religion. The celebration of the Virgin is associated with the celebration to the Pachamama or “Mother Earth”.

The party develops day after day during the first two weeks of February. At that party more than 40,000 dancers and 10,000 musicians from different regions of the country and the sister Republic of Bolivia cheer and adorn the streets of Puno with revelry and waste of incomparable emotions.

The main day of the festival, takes place on February 2 each year. So every Feb. 2, more than 50 thousand visitors from around the world come to this part of the world to celebrate for nearly 17 days, the party where Mamacha Candela dances to spectacular musical performances alongside by Puno people through its cobbled streets.
